Set within the rugged landscape of Sifnos, this private residence was developed with a strong emphasis on simplicity, landscape integration, and respect for the traditional Cycladic terrain. Positioned carefully along the natural slope of the site, the house was designed to blend discreetly into its surroundings while maximizing views, privacy, and orientation.
The architectural composition follows the clarity and restraint of Cycladic architecture, combining clean geometric volumes with natural stone boundaries and minimal interventions to the landscape. The project’s placement responds directly to the topography, allowing the residence to feel embedded within the hillside rather than imposed upon it.
A key aspect of the project was the management of the challenging terrain and the coordination of construction within a remote island environment. From excavation and retaining works to structural execution and final detailing, every phase required careful planning and close supervision to ensure the building integrated naturally with the existing site conditions.
Traditional dry-stone walls and local landscape elements were preserved and incorporated into the overall composition, reinforcing the connection between architecture and the natural character of the island. The contrast between the white monolithic volumes and the raw terrain creates a quiet architectural presence that remains consistent with the scale and identity of the Cycladic landscape.
Our involvement focused on the complete project management and construction coordination of the residence, overseeing all stages of execution from site preparation and structural works to contractor coordination, budgeting, scheduling, and quality control. Special attention was given to construction logistics, material management, and the technical complexities associated with building on steep terrain in Sifnos.
Through continuous on-site supervision and close collaboration with all parties involved, the project was delivered with precision and consistency, ensuring that the architectural vision was translated accurately into the built result. The process emphasized efficient execution, technical problem-solving, and a careful balance between contemporary construction and the timeless simplicity of Cycladic architecture.
The completed residence reflects a contemporary yet deeply contextual approach to island living—where architecture, landscape, and craftsmanship work together to create a quiet and authentic living environment within the natural terrain of Sifnos.
